I had a chance to swing by the new Barking Buffalo Cafe last week, a small grab-and-go coffee space paired with local fashion brand Salgado Fenwick. Coffee and fashion all in one space? It’s not an unusual concept but definitely a presentation of two visions bringing more life to the growing 124 Street district.
Salgado Fenwick + Barking Buffalo Cafe
The space was previously home to Parkhill Vision Care, with the downstairs space being used as Salgado Fenwick’s workshop. The upstairs became vacant last winter and Salgado Fenwick owners Linda Ritter and Shauna Force figured, why not? As lovers of coffee, they joined forces with Kassie Burkholder to bring you Barking Buffalo Cafe. Throw in Elliot Kerr, previously at Duchess Bakeshop, to help behind the bar and tada!
Salgado Fenwick + Barking Buffalo Cafe
The space is gorgeous, a display and shop of Salgado Fenwick’s fashions, complete with change rooms. Custom woodworking done by Oleson Woodshop in Regina gives Barking Buffalo Cafe, a fitting cabin-feel as most of the clothing have animal-inspired silkscreened prints. Head towards the back and you can actually see the cutting and sewing spaces for the shop which is pretty cool. The space extends even past the workshop, currently up for debate as to what it will become in the future.
Pilot Coffee Roasters
A few tables line the side wall, although the space is meant for a grab-and-go (or shop!) cup. Loved that they’re serving Toronto’s Pilot Coffee Roasters, a new roast to me and a welcomed one at that. I’m all about variety! Almond milk is a default here, a vegetarian/vegan friendly staple and for those sick and tired of paying the extra cost for the substitute. For those of us who like our regular milk, don’t worry, just ask! Muffins and granola bars are also available for munching.

Congrats to Barking Buffalo Cafe on their opening! For a different cup of coffee and a chance to check out a great space, head up a little further 124th street to pay them a visit. Open late on Thursday nights, you can also pop by during the 124 Grand Market.
