When they founded Caramia Caramels, best friends and sister-in-laws Tammy and Alysia Lok definitely hit the sweet spot. The local hand-crafted caramel company launched this May at the City Market and haven’t looked back since. Promising smooth, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth European-style caramels, the duo sell classic caramels alongside fun flavours like London Fog Latte, Sriracha Roasted Almond and my favourite of their timeless collection, the Smoked Maple Bacon. Read on to find out how you can get your hands on a box of these delicious treats!

Caramia Caramels from City Market
“Cara Mia” means “my beloved” in Italian and Caramia Caramels are meant to be shared with those you love! Made with only high quality, whole, natural ingredients, these caramels are rich, creamy, and the smoothest caramel I’ve had yet. I’m a fan of all kinds of caramels but it’s nice to finally have one that won’t stick to the top of your mouth or give your jaw a good workout. Although they can last up to three weeks, it’s recommended to eat the caramels right away. (Why wouldn’t you?)

Caramia Caramels is one of those local Edmonton business dreams that are not only inspiring, but genuinely rewarding to support. Both women have since left their day jobs to pursue Caramia Caramels full time and have used their respective skills and knowledge to further their growing business. Currently the caramels are made pot by pot on a stove top and takes the girls four hours to make from start to finish and only makes 10 to 12 bags! I could eat 10 bags in a sitting!
It makes sense then that to expand Caramia Caramels, they need the help of Prince Charming Mix-a-Lot, a candy cooking machine that would help them sell at more local markets and shows and eventually on their online shop. They’ve already surpassed their $13,000 goal on Kickstarter and I’m looking forward to their Kickstarter exclusive flavours (Hot Chocolate, Gingerbread and Candy Cane), but additional support will bring back another one of my summer favourites: the Rootbeer Lemon Float! If they meet their newest stretch goal of $26,000 (double their initial target!), they’ll release their Matcha Green Tea and Chai Tea flavoured caramels as well! YES to all flavours please!

For those of you who haven’t tried them (or those of you who just can’t get enough!), the 8-piece box is a perfect introduction to their treats, two of each of their timeless flavours. Thanks to the lovely girls, I’m giving away a box to share some caramel love!
