Cafe Linnea launched a new winter menu earlier in January. The Scandinavian-French inspired dishes have me swooning. I don’t mind a longer winter if this means the menu will stay. Recommendations: Smoked Pot Pie and Warm Winter Salad.
Creamy Seed & Oat Porridge Topped with house-made peach preserves and a side of cream.
Cinnamon & Cardamom Buns with house-made butter. One of my favourites: smaller portions, fluffy layers and a good balance between cinnamon and cardamom. Perfect to share or to take home.
Warm Winter Salad Carrots, beets and fennel with house-made ricotta, whey gastrique and fresh sprouts. Makes you wonder why salads get such a bad reputation because this is one the best salads in the city. Colours so bright you wonder if it’s actually paint on canvas, light airy ricotta, and microgreens.
Smoked Chicken Soup with herbed spoon dumplings, parsnips & confit garlic.
Smoked Pot Pie Smoked chicken & pork loin, fresh peas & carrots in a cream sauce, topped with a pastry lid and a poached egg. Served with a side of greens. Impressive presentation with a domed pie crust, balancing a poached egg. I’m okay with the absence of potatoes, the pot pie filling as is without feeling weighed down. Best thing to order from Cafe Linnea’s winter menu.
Swedish Meatballs Ground pork & beef seasoned with allspice and nutmeg, served with creamy mashed potatoes, pickled cucumbers & coffee gravy.
